Make your own 3D printer filament using PLA Pellets from 3D Print Works. Use them in filament machines such as the Filafab. Order pre-mixed colour pellets or mix them yourself using virgin material and dye.
What are Quality PLA Pellets?
It can be confusing to know which PLA pellets are best to use since they are not all equal. PLA (Polylactic Acid) is made from corn starch and is a relatively new plastic. The best material comes from a company called NatureWorks and the best grade is called 4032D. We only use this quality grade. Ask your retailer what material they use - this information can be found on the Data Sheet which good all material suppliers have to hand. There is a cheaper and inferior grade used mainly in the Far East. Some companies use recycled material. Neither of these will provide a good, consistent quality.
Storage and Usage
PLA pellets can become wet due to moisture from the air. This in turn affects the quality of the filament. The water droplets evaporate leaving behind air bubbles. To prevent this, store the pellets in a cool, dry environment with desiccant which will absorb the moisture. Thoroughly dry the material before it is used to make filament.
